Museal history, Québec



Québec City has embraced its history and keeps it alive. A visit to one of these museums is like walking down a path leading to the discovery of history, art, heritage and culture. Among the museums of note are:

Musée du Québec (museum)
Located in the heart of a historical park, this art gallery presents collections of Québec art and international exhibits. The reception area of the museum, partially built into a hillside, connects a former prison and the original building.

Musée de la civilisation
(museum of civilization)

A celebration of unique concepts! The popular and interactive exhibits encourage visitor participation. With a focus on current, historical, unusual and controversial themes, the museum lends itself well to fascinating discoveries about the world -and about ourselves! More than 10 concurrent exhibits!

Musée de l'Amérique française (museum)Canada's oldest museum tells about the development of French culture in North America.

Le Musée du Fort


   Urban life Interpretation Centre of Québec City

   This interpretation centre offers an indoor audio tour highlighting 12 aspects of Québec City history dating
   back to 1608 (in French, English, Spanish and German). Multimedia exhibits.

   Place-Royale Interpretation Centre
   Discover the history of this site, considered to be the cradle of French civilization in North America. Multimedia
   show, exhibits, discovery space and cultural and educational activities.

   Old Port of Québec Interpretation Centre
   Learn about the dynamism of the Old Port, which was one of the 5 largest ports in the world during
   the 19th century. Exhibit on the lumber trade and shipbuilding.

   Artillery Park National Historic Site
   One of the foremost historic sites in Québec City. Visit the three heritage buildings in the park, the only ones
   of their kind in the province.

   Maison Hamel-Bruneau
   This former "Québec style cottage" hosts art and music shows.

   Observatoire de la capitale
   Breathtaking view from an observatory 221 m (663') above the city. Get a bird's eye view on the history of
   the provincial capital.

   You can also take a tour of the local Economuseums, such as the Verrerie La Mailloche (glass blowing),
   Musée de l'abeille (bees), the boutique Richard Robitaille Fourrures (furs) and the Forge de Pique-Assaut
   (smithy).
